We’re so excited to have you come and stay with us at Kyah. To help you plan your trip, we wanted to share some of our all-time favourite places to see (and things to do) in Blackheath and the wider Blue Mountains. 

From sipping on local craft beer or cocktail as the sun sets, to exploring the epic sandstone cliff lines by horseback, one thing is for sure — you’re about to make memories that’ll last a lifetime.

BITES + BOOZE

The Blue Mountains is an absolute mecca for food and drink lovers. You’ll discover everything from vineyards and distilleries to hand-made pastries and to-die-for breads. Here are some of our favourite places that are a must-do for our foodie visitors.   

Dryridge Estate

  • Our onsite bar and restaurant Blaq doesn’t just offer delicious seasonal dishes and oh-my-gosh-that’s-good cocktails, we also create special events which are announced regularly on our What’s On page. Past events include gin masterclasses, Father’s Day steak and beer lunches, Christmas in July and more.   • Nestled in the stunning Megalong Valley, our mates over at Dryridge Estate make some seriously good wine. Spend an afternoon with a wine tasting, watching the colours dance across the sandstone escarpment that surrounds the valley. Oh, and don’t forget the cheese board. Because wine without cheese is like a trip to the Blue Mountains without a visit to Kyah.

  • If you're craving a cold one, we can't recommend the guys over at Mountain Culture Beer Co enough. They’re just down the road in Katoomba and craft all their beers on site (we also stock a range in our onsite bar and restaurant, Blaq). Their burgers are also banging if we do say so ourselves.

  • Supporting local business has never tasted this good. Black Cockatoo Bakery is a Blue Mountains institution, hand-crafting insanely good bread and pastries with venues in Katoomba and Lawson. The chocolate and pistachio pastry is one of our favs and highly recommended (unless we’ve polished them all off before you get there that is. Sorry in advance).

EXPLORE + ENJOY

To say that there are endless options for adventures in the Blue Mountains is no overstatement. There are thousands of kilometres of hiking trails to discover, wild waterfalls, and plenty of local attractions too. Here are some of our team’s must-dos. 

Porters Pass

  • Cider lovers rejoice! Just 40 minutes away from Blackheath (on the ‘other’ way back to Sydney) you’ll discover the village of Bilpin. It’s famous for its apples with not one, but two cider distilleries - Hillbilly Cider and Bilpin Cider. There are also plenty of places to buy hand-made apple pies, relax with a coffee, or go for bushwalks to hidden waterfalls and lookouts.

  • Blackheath Rhododendron Gardens are best visited during the stunning Rhodo season from 1st October to the end of November but are open all year round. This place is insanely beautiful when the flowers are in bloom; bright pinks, purples, and yellows. In selected weeks in the height of the season, you can also indulge in an Aussie Cream Tea. Sounds like the perfect afternoon to us.

  • What better way to explore the iconic Megalong Valley than by one of the oldest forms of transport, horseback? Majestic cliffs, deep valleys, and rocky ridges, are all explored with the help of our equine friends.

  • Here you’ll find the world’s steepest railway, the southern hemisphere’s steepest aerial cablecar and the iconic scenic Skyway where you travel between cliff lines whilst suspended at 270 metres above the forest canopy. A visit to the Blue Mountains isn’t complete without a visit to Scenic World.

  • Blackheath is a hiker's paradise. From the iconic Grand Canyon which takes you through ancient rainforest into an otherworldly canyon, to the dog-friendly Porters Pass with views over Shipley Valley, you could walk for days and still never see it all.
